Spring Carnival Winning style

Race day winning style

Top tips for Spring Carnival Success will always focus on creating your outfit around your colours

Now is the time to plan your signature style outfit, in keeping with your personality, and suitable for your age.

To be a fashion forward winner first consider carnival etiquette.

Decorum is the order of the day

Racing has enjoyed a long history of elegance and sophistication. Decorum is the order of the day. Avoid too tight, revealing and skin baring numbers. Remember these are daytime events and although you wish to make a splash, metallic's, sequins and shine are definitely off limits. Keep that for night time events.

Traditional Derby Day

Derby Day is traditionally black and white in a new way. Black is a heavy option, so off white is a more feminine and softer look for these occasions, especially for mature women.

Femme Frocks and fascinators

Ever in style, femme frocks, frilly fascinators and magnificent hat displays.

If hats aren't your thing. a fresh flower, headband or fascinator are always more than perfect.

Choosing the right colours

If you're up for colour, be mindful the wrong colours will make you look dull and dreary.

To be very safe, go for pretty soft florals and perhaps a strong colour splash.

Soft or floral pinks with a bright fushia hat, a gorgeous lemon dress with an emerald green hat and shoes, or a mint green dress with a burgundy row of flowers make a wow ensemble. Swap out blacks for greys, browns, taupes and burgundys for ultimate feminine fashion.

2019 fashion

Classics are always in style, but 2019 brings back the padded shoulders and cowgirl gingham, chequered print for a bit of flirty fun

Crisp cottons, linens, lace silk and georgettes all add to the beautiful spring styles

Colour is the key to every occassion

If you're a little confused about colour, it's ok because there are literally an infinite amount of colours, so if you haven't had your colours done, you may wish to do that before you plan your outfits. It will make choosing the right outfits so much easier.

If you haven't had your colours done, try a few different colours and see if you can tell which ones look best on you. You may remember a colour that you and others really loved on you, so look for a colour like that.

Top to toe elegance

Make one element of your outfit the focus for top to toe elegance. It may be the hat, your hairstyle, the dress or some amazing accessories, or a mono toned outfit, calls for attention. Be sure the colours tone in together. Or have one feature colour that stands out or "clashes". Bold colour combos are difficult to get right unless you are well versed in colour.

Make up

Top your look with an elegant hair style and appropriate, well applied make up.

Avoid heavy black make up and metallic colours. Thick lashes and long nails are a little overdone as well.

Beautiful shoes

Complete your carnival style with lovely shoes that suit your outfit. You may be standing all day or on the field, so wedges flats or a chunkier heel may be more appropriate. Spend a little time on choosing shoes as they can make or break your whole look. You don't want to be going barefoot at the races!!!!
