You’ve heard this sentiment a thousand times before but what better time to take a look at your Image than January of every new year.
Are you totally happy with the way you look or do you think there may be a few little tweeks you can do to improve what you see in the mirror?
Let’s face it none of us are getting any younger, and as I cater to the mature woman those usually over 50 or 60 and beyond, I see lot's of changes that can be made for the better.
So do you think you can handle another checklist for 2024 and see if there are one or two things you can do to improve your look, feel better about yourself and set yourself up to win?
So here is my New Year checklist and if you find something that stands out to you, I’m happy to give you some guidance about the change(s) that you can make, to achieve your ultimate new look.
So how’s your hair? Did you know that I recommend a change of hair cut, style, colour to nearly all my clients?
And did you know a new doo can literally alter your appearance, make you look 10 years younger, make you look more attractive and in general change your image completely?
Note how this Russian stylist has made all the difference with this lovely hairstyle and colour and of course having the client wear the right colours for her underskin tone.
So if you need some colour, cut, style advice all you need to do is send a pic of your head. That is a head shot. You know from the neck up. I’ll send you a few pics for you to take to your hairdresser.
Oh yes and the make up in the right colours is a real game changer. If you’ve noticed some really bad looking make up on celebrities for example, I can guarantee they are in the wrong seasonal colours make up.
Remember Colours make up is in the seasonal make up colours. So it takes all the guess work out of choosing the right colour make up.
Even if you’ve had your colours done with me and are pretty good with your colours, I’m certain I can help you fine tune that wardrobe even more. At least add some more pizazz and scope and inject some things you’ve not thought of before. Always start with your colours.
This lovely client, was wearing just the wrong colours on the left and switching to the right colours in her wardrobe changed the way she looked completely. Note the difference in body shape as well.
If you feel you’re not sure about your colours or if someone has not done your colours correctly, please have them checked until you’re happy. There are some interesting information around colours these days.
Lastly putting the whole thing together, can add that final bit of flair to your style.
Having an outside opinion is always a powerful thing to do and especially with a colour specialist so what are you waiting for?
Get your colours right check out the check list and contact me if you need any help.

Colour analysis has gone through many changes over the last decades.
Some changes are not so good because the colour drapes some consultants are using are a bit dubious and you would have to say open to interpretation. Many colours are added to certain seasons that do not belong.
So let's just go back to basics and highlight a few simple but good and accurate steps to follow a logical path to do a colour analysis and come up with an accurate and good result.
What is a good way to compile a set of drapes, to determine skin tone and value?
We start with a warm shade usually peach and then a cool shade usually pink to denote a cool shade, as the first part of the analysis.
Then there is one of each shade in each season. Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter yellows, and blues, greens whites and reds. There are 22 drapes in all.
The analysis begins by determining the underskin tone.
Is your underkin tone warm or cool?
This is done by the very first part of the colour analysis.
A warm cloth is draped over the client wearing no make up and covered hair.
The hair is covered so as not to confuse warm or cool as the hair may throw warm or cool tones.
This cloth is usually a very predictable warm colour like peach.
A cool cloth is a very definite cool pink. These two drapes are a real decider when it comes to determining underskin tone
What you're looking for at this stage is the cloth that enhances the skin tone and face.
For example which cloth makes the skin appear more even without changing the natural skin colour.
Other things to look for are eye brightness, clarity in eye whiteness. Note if the face turns more red, or dark or pigmented.
Skin imperfections become more obvious with the wrong shade. Teeth will look more yellow with the wrong shade. Shadow will appear under the chin with the wrong shade.
Dark shadows around eyes and under the eyes are more noticeable with the wrong colour.
Once you have made a clear decision about warm or cool, you can then eliminate all warm or all cool shades respectively.
Warm colours are in the Autumn and Spring palettes. Cool colours are in the Winter and Summer Palettes.
The next step is determining the value. By value I mean depth of shades.
The stronger shades are in the (cool) Winter palette and the (warm) Autumn palette.
Winter blue Autumn blue
If you've eliminated all warm colours then obviously you're left with Winter and Summer colours only.
Summer blue
If you eliminate the Deep value of Winter colours then you're left with the softer more muted shades of the Summer palette.
Just a note here. You can see that doing your own colour analysis is not that simple.
In fact over the years I've seen lots of clients that are just plain confused and have no idea what season they are, no matter how hard they try to work their own colours out.
The most important reason for this is because there are over 16million colours and in fact there are an infinite number of colours. Also because it's only experience that helps you to slot those colours into their categories.
Without some pretty in depth experience you're going to find it difficult to determine what is a warm or cool colour and then what is a Winter, Summer, Autumn and Spring colour.
You can have a guess but it's only a true experienced colour consultant who can really identify all the colours correctly.
As much as it's a lot of fun trying to guess or work out your colours, I strongly suggest investing in a one time colour analysis and get your colours right to start with.

Johannes Itten (1888-1967) was a Swiss painter, designer and theorist.
He believed colour could invoke feelings, and I agree. What do you feel when you walk into a strong bold monochromatic office? How do you feel when you visit a warm old country farm enriched with the golden hues of the Autumn Palette?
What colours do you envisage would enhance a seaside apartment, and how do you feel when you are in that space? Do you feel light, airy, fresh and happy in the shades of the Muted Summer Palette.
Then there are the bright and light colours of Spring and how do we feel at that time of the year, when we experience new growth and blossoms of the bright spring palette?
Itten theorized seven types of colour contrast, contrast by hue, value, temperature, compliments, simultaneous contrast, contrast by saturation and contrast by extension. He explained by using a colour sphere with the primary colours of red, yellow and blue.
He was the first to associate colour palettes with four types of people and labelled these with the four seasons.
After many years the four seasons were developed in the 1950’s.
These four seasons reflect the seasons of nature. Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
It was a clever way of grouping the seasonal colours as they reflect characteristics of the seasons they represent. Colours of the Winter season like the black sky, the white ice and grey days, paint a picture of dominant cool clear colours.
The soft muted colours of Summer-clear blue sky, soft yellow sand, soft green grass and the calypso colours that accompany our beautiful summer season.
Autumn ushers in the mossy greens and the brilliant colours of autumn leaves with the burnished colours of the trees.
Finally the delightful and delicate and bright colours of Spring with the fresh green grass and spring collection of budding flowers.
In relation to people, a particular colour palette with loads of variety can be designated to each person.
After many years, certain colour consultants deemed that 4 seasons were not enough to identify the numerous “types” of people on the planet.
This only managed to dilute and distort a perfectly functional and accurate way of doing colours.
The original stated whether you are warm or cool ie, Autumn and Spring warm or Winter or Summer cool.
Then once that is determined a further breakdown accessed if you were the deeper or lighter of that breakdown.
So simple and so straightforward was this system. The problem was colour consultants failed to “see”the colours against the clients skin, thereby giving a false reading.
Therefore needing more sub categories.
And so we now have a further diluting of each of the four seasons, calling Spring warm, light and bright. Summer cool, light and soft. Winter bright deep and cool and Autumn warm, deep and soft which is just a further explanation of what these four main categories are. It’s just a repetition of what they are.
Sadly now we have thousands of interpretations of what each of these colour breakups look like.
If you search it out each colour analyst will have different colours in each palette, and in fact most have a combination of all the seasonal colour palettes included in each category, with the colours from each of the spring, summer, autumn and winter palettes.
This leads to ultimate confusion for the client and a colour palette they adhere to with a real miss mash of colours and a totally uncoordinated wardrobe.
I see these clients after a while and they are not adhering to their palette at all because the palette may only have some of their colours and many wrong colours.
Stick to the four seasonal colour palettes.
Find accurate colour palettes that identify colours this way.
Winter colours are Cool, blue based, strong, primary and bold. They include black, white, all greys, Deep deep chocolate brown, extremely pale icy colours for contrast and the rich primary colours.
Summer colours are also cool, soft, muted and contain the deep colours of milk chocolate brown, beiges, taupes, soft grey, soft denims, burgundys, mint greens, soft emeralds, lemon yellows, muted pinks and purples, wedgewood blues, light blues and soft muted navys
Autumn colours are rich and deep and warm. Pumpkins and ochres and rich warm purples and golden yellows and warm golden browns and creams and teal and muted blues and rich warm burgundys as well as orange reds and all oranges.
Spring colours are similar to Summer colours and are often mistaken because they are the less intense, versions of colours, but they are much brighter due to the warm component and yellow base. You have lime greens and soft warm corals and peaches and warm browns and warm caramel browns and yellow beiges. Bright blues and bright greens and bright yellows are the happy colours of Spring.
This is just a small sampling of the colours that fit into the four palettes. All I know as an experienced colour analyst your colouring will suit one only of the four seasonal colour palettes. From there the rest is easy just start wearing ALL the many many many colours in your beautiful palette for a beautiful and colourful and co-ordinated functional wardrobe.

Colours is making a big time Comeback and I’m all for it, because colour is the key to our Image Success.
I mean who doesn’t want to look younger, more vibrant, more attractive, more stylish and chic?
It’s a no brainer when it comes to fashion, colour can quickly transform your appearance.
So what’s all the fuss about and why are so many stylists and of course colour consultants and Image Consultants, hopping on the colour bandwagon?
I do think the most elegant, beautiful and stunning women know how to dress in their colours.
Think of the stars of the 50’s in those amazing gowns and extravagant wear, looking absolutely breathtaking in their gorgeous colours.
Colour is not only the most exciting way to dress but also the most individual way to dress.
Wearing your colours will make you not only more beautiful and stylish, but more creative as you learn how to use your colours well and create great colour combos and accessorise in an interesting manner.
As a colour consultant the first thing I explain to my clients when having their colour analysis is what to look for in the draping.
Wrong colours highlight shadow, lines, dullness, redness, pigmentation and other flaws in the skin. They make our teeth look more yellow, the whites of the eyes not as white and our hair duller.
The correct colours even out the skin. They bring brightness, less shadow, lines and wrinkles.
Pigmentation, redness and aging are all less noticeable in the right colours. Our teeth look whiter, our hair looks brighter, when we wear our colours.
It’s really good to learn how to “read” your colours as you’re draped and a trained colour consultant should be able to point these things out to you.
This understanding helps immensely then when you’re shopping on your own with your own seasonal colour swatch.
The first thing to do to learn about your colours is to have a colour analysis.
This can be done online or in person
It’s just a simple 15 minute process that will change your Image world and transform your look overnight.
The consultant starts with a warm (coral) drape and then a cool (pink) drape to show the client how warm and cool reflects on their skin.
At this stage it should be obvious to the consultant, who informs their client, what each shade is doing and how it shows on the skin.
You have draped the warm and the cool and then you will go on to drape 4 red, blue, green, yellow and white colours in each season.
One of each, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter drapes are only necessary as every colour belongs in only 1 of 4 palettes.
The analysis uses colour groups from the 4 seasons.
Every colour has a value of either Cool Dominant which is classified in the Winter range of colours.
The Summer colours are classified as cool (blue based) muted colours
Autumn shades are yellow or red based warm strong colours.
Spring shades are warm also and yellow based but are much lighter than the Autumn colours and often appear brighter than the Summer shades.
Every single one of the infinite number of colours can be placed into 1 of these four categories.
This is the best place to start with colours.
Every client fits into only ONE of these categories.
It is impossible to be able to suit warm and cool colours at the same time.
Colours are warm and cool and neutral, not people. This is where some confusion has crept into the colour world.
Another confusion is when certain colours are placed into the wrong category of colours, so best to find a consultant that is experienced with working with colours.
If you have for example one of every green, 1 spring, 1 summer, 1 winter and 1 autumn green as you drape the consultant will be able to see just how each colour reflects upon your skin.
As they drape you with each colour component eg. All the reds, yellows, reds and blues, a pattern should form as in the same season will appear as the most flattering.
Everything in the draping should agree so that you can see that only ONE season comes up as the best season for you.
In the past we have been told to determine your colours by your veins, or your hair or eye colour.
This is not an accurate way of telling your colours and should be avoided as a guide.
The hair needs to be covered and the drapes are accessed by your UNDER skin tone.
It can become very confusing, so I would suggest you find a good colour consultant with lots of experience and good reviews.
If you would like more information about having your colours done and having an accurate colour analysis please contact your colours and style.
]]>Colours are making a big comeback. By that I mean people are having their colours done again and there seems to be a lot of interest in it.
You know colours was all the rage in the 70's.
Perhaps we're tired of dull and dreary. After all colour can lift one's spirits.
But aside from the euphoric state of being colour can create, why would you be enticed to completely change your entire wardrobe?
What's all the hype about colour anyway?
A colour analysis is a draping system that applies cloth to the subject to determine which category of colours suit the person's underskin tone.
It's a simple process that requires the analyst to use fabrics from different colour categories to get the "season" of colours right.
Once the season is determined, the client becomes aware of the colours they can choose within their season.
Because there are millions of colours, it's important to be able to learn how to choose those that suit you. This of course is something the analyst guides you in.
There are lots of benefits to wearing your right colours, especially as you age, but I just want to talk about the major reasons why you'd be inspired to make the change to wear your colours all the time.
Reason no 1. Colour is probably the most powerful way to transform the way you look overnight.
You can transform your look immediately by simply changing your hair colour, make up colour and clothing colours.
This is the major benefit to wearing the right colours.
Imagine looking more attractive, younger and more well groomed.
Reason no 2. You'll look more stylish by wearing the right colours.
Is there more to style than just the latest fashion, or the right cut?
There certainly is.
Have you ever worn an outfit that's you're style but just didn't feel good in it? It was
most certainly not the right colour for you.
Your colours blend and flow with you and will create your best style.
If you wear your colours they look like they belong to you. They are a part of you. Hence this is your style.
Reason no 3. You're wardrobe will be well co-ordinated and functional.
Is you're wardrobe messy and disfunctional?
It's stems from a missmatch of different seasons and colours that are not compatible with you.
It can be depressing to step into a wardrobe like this. Full of clothes but nothing to
wear. I call this Image anxiety. How to have no confidence in what you wear.
If you want a wardrobe that's functional, stylish and beautiful get the colours right and do a really thorough wardrobe cull.
So let's make 2023 the start to a functional, stylish and fabulous wardrobe you'll love stepping into and stepping out looking you're best.

Christmas is just around the corner. Here are 7 sure proof ways to sparkle this
Christmas in just 7 days.
Tip no 1. You know what it is. “Colour”. As a colour consultant, I cannot express the
importance of wearing the right colours.
Colour has the power to change your persona completely and instantly.
From drab to fab. Chunky to slimmer, Older to younger, messy to immaculate.
You’re colours is 80% or more of the fashion equation.
So if you haven’t had your colours done, I urge you to do it now.
If you have had your colours done and are still not fully knowledgeable ask for help
from a professional and learn all you can about your colours.
Tip no 2. Let’s start at the top. You’re crowning glory.
We all know how we feel when we get our hair right.
So is it time for a “new do”? Could you do with some changes to the colour and
style?
A lot can change after a visit to the hairdresser.
Discuss a new hair colour. Ask your colour consultant about the colours that best
suit your skin tone and get your hairdresser to work with your best colours.
Next tackle a style that enhances your face shape as well as gives you an up to
date style.
We can all look much younger just by having a more contemporary look.
Certain styles are aging. For example too many tight curls can have an aging
effect on some women. Styles that drag your face down are aging as well as
styles that don’t suit your face shape. Ask the hairdresser for a new style that suits
your face shape. If you’re not happy with the last 3 cuts, it’s time for a change.
Remember most older women look better with shorter hair styles.
Tip no 3. What will you wear for the festive season? What sort of occasion is it?
Formal? Casual?
Find an outfit(s) that suit your colours first, then think about the occasion and then
choose a style you know suits your body shape. Consider fabrics as well as cut.
Some brands will sit better on you because they are well cut. Oh and yes, try to
shop well in advance, to avoid a panic purchase. They are usually not the best
option.
Tip no 4. Your Skin. Nothing looks lovelier than glowing healthy skin. Ask about my
7 days to stunning skin blog and see the difference that you can make with a
healthier lifestyle in such a short time. It really is astounding. You’ll be amazed at a
much more glowing face. An excellent skin product can change your skin in just 7
days. I recommend to all my clients Ciencia 8 anti aging skin care. Naturally
beautiful, award winning and made in Australia. This skin care definitely has the
power to change your skin.
Tip no 5. Make up. There's a lot of ways you can do your make up. Major tip is to
wear the colours in your season only. For example, just getting the right colour
foundation can take years off your look. Your Colours and style has make up that
is listed in your seasonal colours to make choosing your make up simple.
Practice, practice, practice. Find a few make up styles that suit your face and the
way you like to wear your make up. Try something different from time to time, but
do get some make up styles you’re happy with.
Tip no 6. Accessorise. How often have you noticed a woman wearing stunning
jewellery or a fabulous scarf? Well you can do the same. Find your signature
pieces of jewellery and accessories, bags, shoes. Something that is uniquely you
and something that gives your outfit a lift. The plainest outfit can go to a whole new
level with a colourful scarf or a beautiful pair of earrings. No need to spend a
fortune either on these added trinkets.
Another thing to remember with jewellery. Some people suit chunky jewellery and
other suit fine jewellery. There's no rhyme or reason to this, you just need to try
and see which suits you best.
Last tip no 7. Energize and exercise. This one is along the same lines as the
stunning skin. Get healthier this week. Avoid alcohol, excessive coffee, processed
foods, sugar and up the exercise to bring that blood supply to your skin. Try some
cardio and weights to balance out your program.

Can you believe that so many women have anxiety about make up?
So much so, that by the time they come to see me for their colour and style analysis and make up session, they seem completely confused and at a loss about what really looks good on them anymore. So why is this the case?
If you’ve ever gone shopping for make up you know it’s not easy. How would you know what to look for if you have no idea where to start? And what are you looking for anyway?
It’s interesting, when we were younger we had so much more confidence about make up and actually everything. I mean we just used to slap on any old thing and wear whatever we wanted and off we’d go. Well that’s because in general most of us looked a whole lot younger(of course) and more attractive back then. It’s a youth thing.
Sadly we all age but there are things we can do to combat the aging anxiety dilemma, by learning a few tricks and finding what works for us.
Unless we’re make up artists or live in the image world, we tend to think, make up, style and fashion is not our line of expertise and we go through life blindly uninformed about the simple things we should know about the simple art of dressing.
We all wear make up, and dress ourselves every day so why not learn what suits us best?
As a personal stylist, who specializes in colour, I love to help women with their make up.
After all colour is the key to great make up as well as what to wear and just being so much more stylish and attractive.
So I want to share with you some simple ways to have a make up regime that’s not only lovely but so easy and quick to do.
Unless you’re a very qualified trained make up artist and most people are not, you really don’t want to fuss too much about make up anyway. You can adapt make up to your style and your skill level. The majority of women I meet are happy with looking well groomed, younger and more attractive in their make up.
Not all women want to wear much make up so if you’re that type then make your regime very simple.
Remember though, the older we get, the more make up we tend to need for some cover up and for colour especially.
Step 1. Always start with moisturized, hydrated skin. Nothing is more aging than dry skin. Spend time caring for your canvas.
Step 2. If you wear foundation, find the right one for your skin colour. You should not be able to see it on your skin very much at all. Colour makes ALL the difference. YCS (Colours Cosmetics) is geared towards your skin. The tones of the foundations suit all women. Be mindful it’s more of what flatters, tones into and smooths your skin tone out.
Pay less attention to the colour of the skin than the underskin tone. Your face may look red or orange or pigmented. These are not flattering skin tones, so you’ll need a colour to tone these down.
YCS Foundations will suit all skin tones so my products go on more depth of colour, rather than skin tone. EG, Fair Medium or dark.
Step 3. Find a good concealer. It’s all about covering and concealing certain things on our face, not the whole face. Dark lines, dark eyes, creases, dark circles all can be erased out and minimised.
This is a real age defying way of doing your make up and bringing light to the subject. Grab a lighter concealer again in your skin tone. I prefer pink or beige bases for that.
Step 4. Colour .When you have your colours done, you’ll know for sure all the blush, eyeshadow and lipstick colours that suit you as well as eye and lip liners etc. There is a plethora of colours you can use, lots of variety, just check with your colour specialist.
Step 5. Define. As we mature our frame lines disappear. Lines around our lips and eyes. Make up is fabulous for subtly bringing those lines back.
Step 6. Be subtle. Yes subtly bringing those things back. Think about it. What is the worst kind of make up on mature women?
Dark, harsh and garish colours. Be subtle-you’re a mature woman not a council bus.
YCS Cosmetics or Your Colours Cosmetics has been around for many decades. This make up became popular in the 70’s when women first started getting their colours done and they needed someone to define make up by season.
We know there are millions of make up colours around so being able to shop for make up by season just makes our choosing so much simpler.
YCS is also top quality, produced in the USA, ethically made, not tested on animals and paraben free.
It is also 100% hypo-allergenic attesting to the quality of the ingredients. And gentle for millions of women worldwide that have enjoyed the products for decades.
If you would like to try these products feel free to order online or call for more information
It’s also an affordable price and easy to apply.
]]>Today's blog is all about the 20 most common Image mistakes, I've come across in almost 20 years as a personal stylist and colour consultant.
See if you can identify with one or many from the following list.
1. A wardrobe full of clothes with nothing to wear. This is top of the list for an image offender and one issue that leaves women with a great deal of Image Anxiety.
2. Having trouble co-coordinating outfits.
3. Hate Shopping. Another easily avoidable problem I'll talk about in my Image Solutions
4. Looking old and frumpy. Sadly there are an huge number of women that are looking and feeling this way, when they don't have to.
5. Lots of colours that don't go together. Don't feel bad about this one. With an infinite number of colours how can you know how to co-ordinate?
6. An huge amount of black. Many women use black as a default colour because they're of the misconception it goes with everything, is slimming, chic and stylish.
I'm here to bust all those myths.
7.Looking bad in everything. Sad. Every woman can look good at every stage of her life with the right information.
8. Confusion about colour. It was said before. With over 16 million and more colours how can you expect to know about colour without training?
9. Used to look good in a colour but not anymore. Have you noticed, as you've aged something has changed? Yes your hair colour, your skin colour, your body shape? What you thought looked good when you were young, at a time when everything forgivingly looked awesome on you (or so you thought) no longer does. Fact is it wasn't quiet right then and it's even less right now.
10. Not knowing your style. This is another one that can be solved with a little body, style, shape and fashion knowledge.
11. Online shopping is unsuccessful. If you don't know what to do in store, how are you going to shop any better online?
12. Hate choosing outfits just before you go out. Here's that image anxiety again. If you have a closet full of items that don't suit you, you're never going to be comfortable choosing outfits.
13. Clothes in the wardrobe with tags on. There's a few reasons for that. You may have way too many clothes than days in the year or that outfit just is not right for you. Plain and simple. Save some money and get the right information about what suits you the best.
14. Too many clothes. Even if you have some fabulous clothes in your wardrobe, having them all stuffed in will hinder your options to choose right. Often your best outfit is hiding.
15. You're make up is outdated. Are you guilty of wearing the same Carnaby Street make up you wore when you were 16? That was decades ago and the ridiculousness of it has increased as you've grown older. Time for a revamp.
16. Hair colour is a disaster. I would say at least 80% of my clients could benefit from a complete hair colour update.
17. No Image Confidence. Well that's understandable, because you don't look your best. Imagine how you're going to feel when you have the tools to have a total revamp?
18. Had colours done by different consultants with different opinions and you're still confused. Your right colours are the key to your Image success. But if your colour consultants are confused what hope do you have? Have a colour analysis with a professional colour consultant that know's what they're doing.
19. Had wrong colours with a colour consultant. You know something is not right. You're not wearing ALL the colours they recommended and your swatch is a mismatch. Get an accurate analysis.
20. Have zero style. Again start with the right colours, the rest is common sense and will fall into place. Most outfits you see that don't look stylish are simply in the wrong colours.
How did you go? Did you see yourself in one or more or all of these problems?
If so I urge you to come for a professional Colour and Image consultation and have a top to toe Image transformation with Your Colours and Style Sydney.
If you're not in Sydney I can help you with an online analysis as well.

They say “you can never be too rich or too slim”. I’m not sure about that, but as a professional colour consultant I know there are certain colours that make you look slimmer.
Most mature women I know crave a more slender outline and one that doesn’t make us appear fat and frumpy, but can the colours we wear, help us to achieve that goal?
They most definitely can. So what would be your most slimming colours?
If you ask women what is the most slimming colour, the most outstanding answer would be black.
But is black the most slimming colour?
No it isn’t and here are 2 reasons why.
But the misconception that black is your most slimming colour has gained lots of support. Sadly not everything you read is true.
It ‘s true colour plays a key role in helping us to look slimmer and more together. Especially when we wear our colours from top to toe.
Your colours will make you look lighter and brighter.
This works by allowing light onto the subject. The light that you need to draw to yourself.
Wearing your colours from top to toe gives the illusion of slimness.
Without this colour cohesion an outfit can appear to look messy or sloppy.
Wearing colours from different palettes can cut the body up and also add unwanted weight to you.
Eg. If you wear a top from one colour palette and a pant from a different colour palette, you look mismatched, cut in half and that line across your middle adds "weight".
This can also happen by adding black pants to everything.
If you always wear the right colours from top to toe, you’ll look taller and therefore slimmer.
The right colours for you will also attract the right light to you as well.
How do you choose the right colours?
Now that you realize, wearing your colours can make you look so much slimmer and more co-ordinated and more stylish, how do you go about finding the colours that suit you?
There are an unlimited number of colours. Easily in excess of 16 million. That’s one of the major reasons why people find it difficult to differentiate between the right colours and the wrong colours to wear.
I would always recommend a good colour analysis from someone who has been gaining good reviews for accurate colour analysis work and preferably someone who’s been in the industry for many years.
It’s so easy to get the colours wrong. A colour analysis literally takes less than 30 minutes. Always use the draping method and I prefer the original 4 seasons analysis from the Colour me Beautiful days.
Since then so many changes have occurred with various colour systems that can be quiet confusing.
I do know that if you practice wearing colour all the time, you have a good chance of getting your colours right over time.
Note which colours you get lots of compliments for and also the ones that make you look younger and more vibrant.

I know black’s had a pretty good wrap since Coco Chanel made it chic, stylish and mandatory in the early 1900’s.
Among her now-classic innovations were the Chanel suit, the quilted purse, costume jewelry, and the “little black dress.”
And then we’ve made a spectacular statement of the LBD ever since.
Many stylists begin and end with black.
Black dress, pants coats, shoes, bags are our staple and basic must haves, but does black always serve us well?
I don’t think so. Black is not our best choice when we’re aging.
Black is often the go to colour (non colour) many women are drawn to when they want to look, professional, well groomed, chic, stylish, younger, contempary, to name a few, but may I point you to some reasons why as a mature colour consultant, I will never wear black again?
Because black absorbs all light it creates a feeling of “heaviness”.
Most mature women I know would rather have a much lighter appearance. Many of us a carrying excess weight anyway and looking heavier is not ideal.
We have been led to believe black is slimming but could this be a misconception?
Grab a black garment and place it under your chin. See the shadow under the chin and how much more noticeable lines, wrinkles, dark circles, sagging skin is?
It’s a sure way of adding years.
We’ve been told black is a universal colour and can go with everything?
Actually black is a dominant cool colour and it mixes with other strong or dominant colours like pure white, primary red, green, yellow, blue, green and purple.
Black is strong and therefore goes well with other strong colours. So it doesn’t go with everything, and trying to mix it with everything creates drab outfits.
4. Black limits your colour choices
If you are a black lover and have a wardrobe full of black, I can almost guarantee there isn’t much else in your wardrobe as far as variety in colours.
Black is very limiting, for the reasons I spoke about in no 3.
Black only goes with a very limited number of colours.
I make this point by saying. Go into a room with 60 other people that are wearing predominately black.
How different or not do they look? You have a sea of dull uninteresting looking people.
How interesting can a black dress look? How different do your 15 pairs of black pants look in your wardrobe?
How often do you buy more black pants when you already have so many?
Colours create atmosphere.
What atmosphere is created at a funeral, where everyone is traditionally wearing black?
The mood is sombre, sad, serious and depressing.
That’s why I prefer to wear colour to a funeral unless it is traditional or required to wear black.. So unless you’re compelled to wear black, why not wear colour for a brighter mood?
How many mature women say “I don’t want to look like mutton dressed up as lamb?
Well wearing black is one sure fire way of that being the case because black is a very “hard” colour.
In all my years as a stylist, none of my clients have said they would love to look more harsh or hard.
Contrary to popular belief, I've seen multiple examples of women looking far less than stylish in black.
In fact sometimes we can actually look quiet sloppy wearing black.
So give it a go. Look at all your black outfits and then try your coloured outfits (in the right colours of course) and see which outfits look more stylish.
There are just 8 of the reasons why I will never wear black again. Oh and yes another reason why, is I have thousands of other colours to wear, that look bright and beautiful.
When you don’t wear black your colour choices explode.
I promise you it’s more fun, attractive, stylish and beautiful wearing colour instead of black.

If you're reading this blog you're probably very aware of the power of colours. The
power of wearing the right colours that suit you.
You are very aware you will look younger, slimmer, more vibrant, more stylish and
attractive when you wear your colours.
Have you had your colours done? And even if you have are you sure they have
been done correctly and you are getting the most from your colours?
Over the years as a colour consultant, I've seen a real mix of experiences with
colour.
People wearing the wrong colours. People not wearing any colour at all. People
that are certain they're wearing their colours and are not. People that have had
their colours done correctly but are not utilizing all their colours. People that have
had their colours correctly analyzed but have been given poor advise about how to
choose their colours or have been given swatches with the wrong colours as well
as the right colours. People that sometimes accidently wear the right colours,
People that wear the wrong colours most of the time.
But whatever their colour experience, I know they can always improve on getting
those colours right and bringing their image up a notch or two or three.
Firstly let me say that the older we get the more we will realize that certain colours
"just don't do anything for us"
Have you ever noticed that? You'll try on a colour or even a garment you've worn
many times before and suddenly realize, "Yuk" I look terrible in that colour?
Clients have even told me they have to wear scarves to hide certain colours
because they think they can't wear that colour anymore.
So obviously tip no 1. Is you realize yourself that certain colour just doesn't suit you
anymore.
It never was your best colour, but it's become less flattering as you've aged.
Tip no 2. You get very little compliments in that colour. I know not everyone has an
eye for colour, but if you notice lot's of side whispers when you go out with friends
and a funny look on their face, it could be that cacky coloured top your wearing.
Have you noticed when you're wearing a different top in a different colour the
compliments just keep flowing?
Tip no 3. You look and feel old and tired. It can be a real drain when your wearing
the wrong colour. You catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and you tell your
boss you're not feeling very well and need to go home. The sad thing is they agree
with you.
Tip no 4. Nothing in your wardrobe matches. This is really telling. If you have a
wardrobe full of mismatch colours that don't flow, it's a good sign that there are
many offending colours that don't belong in your wardrobe.
Tip no 5. You seem to be unco-ordinated. You're outfit is just not right. You may not
know what needs to change but you never feel quite well groomed enough.
Tip no 6. You feel a bit "drab". Again you're not sure what needs to change but you
always feel drab. You think it's because your getting older and older women look
drab anyway. (such a lie).
Tip no 7. You hate shopping. There's nothing more of a drag than shopping when
you don't know how to choose colours that suit you. Nothing seems to look good
and everything makes you look drab and sad.
Tip no 8. You bring clothes home and never wear them. Mm this is a bad one.
Liking something in the shop and getting it home and finding it just doesn't really
look good on you and it doesn't go with anything in the wardrobe.
Tip no 9. You mix everything with black. A real give away. Black doesn't go with
everything my friend, even though we've been told it does. Mixing black with
everything is the biggest tell tale sign you know nothing about your colours.
Tip no 10 Because 10 is a round number. You're wardrobe is colourless. If you
know your colours, you'll have heaps of colours in your wardrobe.
So after reading all the tips to see what happens if you're wearing the wrong
colours, I'm sure you're now motivated to wear the right colours.
It's such a joy and it makes you look younger more vibrant, healthy, happy, stylish,
attractive and beautiful, no matter how old you are.
Shopping is a joy, because you're good at it.
Everything looks good on you
You look more stylish
Your friends stop talking about you haha
You look slimmer
It will be easier to choose your style
You're make up will look lovely
You're hair colour will suit.
You save time, money and energy shopping.
You have buyer satisfaction so you don't have to keep buying and buying.
And in general you'll be known as that woman that always looks lovely.
Whatever your aims or goals are for your image, colour can satisfy, so either have
an accurate colour analysis and learn about your colours.
Or have your colours rechecked today. Either with the online colour analysis to
check your colours or a one on one with Your Colours and Style Sydney to get your

Most of us have heard about Colours. Getting your colours done, wearing colours that suit you.
The seasonal colour palettes. Looking good in your colours. It goes on and on.
How committed are people to wearing their colours? Do people really know what colours suit them?
Not really. And there is a whole lot of reasons for that. One’s that I will not go into in this blog.
But the big question is. If you look fabulous, great, younger, slimmer, more attractive in your colours then why don’t you wear them?
Like I said there is a lot I can say about colour, but as a colour professional/specialist, this blog is all about colours that are a big no no when we age.
So many women have come to me over the years and explained there are certain colours that “just don’t look good on me anymore”
Or "I have to wear a scarf or something to break this colour up because it’s too dark, heavy or dull?"
So today I'm just going to name 5 of the big offending colours every mature woman should avoid if she doesn’t want to look old and frumpy.
See if you relate to any of these.
No 1. Electric Blue.
Why is this colour offender no 1?
Electric blue is bright and strong and it looks just like that on you. It stands out way to much and it’s not the type of attention you’re looking for
No 2. Orange
Orange can either be a primary orange or a warm dull colour. It can either be too bright or too heavy.
Again you don’t want to look too bright or too heavy.
So avoid all oranges. Is there an orange type you can wear?
Yes there is and your colour analysis will reveal that
No 3. Primary Red.
One of my sayings as a colour consultant is “if it’s too bright it’s not right”.
That’s what I say about MOST reds. Not all but most are too bright.
Think bright red lipstick. Not a good look for an older women.
Another reason why I avoid bright reds is many people just mix it with black.
A very frumpy combo for mature women.
No 4 Bright yellow
Again another colour that’s way too bright. Many clients shy away from yellow for
good reasons. But I always assure them there are some yellows that look fantastic
on them. Yellow can be really fresh and lovely. Especially in their casual wear.
Yellow is certainly a very summery colour so let your colour analysis determine
the best yellows to wear.
No 5 Black
Coming in as the key offender for mature women in colours not to wear is black
I know many think black is stylish, chic, slimming, evergreen, elegant, goes with everything, etc etc. But here is the kicker.
Take a photo of yourself in black.
Take a good hard look at it.
Ask yourself these questions.
Do I look dull? Does the black show shadow around my eyes, chin? Do I appear to
have more wrinkles? Do I look aged? Is this boring on me?
I could go on, but I rest my case.
Black is not flattering on older women and black does not go with every colour. In
fact it really only truly goes with the dominant cool colours.
Hope you've enjoyed this blog.
Try this and see for yourself and give me some comments about what you find.
Love to hear from you Ros Your Colours and Style

But before you hit the mall running, let’s talk about the 10 top things I as a personal shopper consider for my clients to get them the best bang for their bucks.
And how those 10 things ensure success each and every time we go shopping with lot’s of happy purchases, the clients just love.
I mean let’s face it, who wants to employ a personal shopper and come home with nothing or worse still come home with things you’re still not happy with and will never wear?
You’re quiet good at that yourself that’s why you may need a personal shopper.
A personal shopping experience is meant to be something you could not do on your own. Right? Or at least an experience that helps you to shop better in the future.
What are the 10 most important things I consider when shopping with my clients.
THE most important, necessary, mandatory thing I consider is the colours that suit the client. I WOULD SAY COLOUR IS 80% OF THE STYLE EQUATION. The difference between wearing the wrong colour outfit and the right colour outfit is ridiculous.
I cannot stress how important the colour component of your wardrobe is if you want to look your best.
Why do I say that? Because most women are not reaching their true image potential and it’s always because they can improve when it comes to wearing the right colours.
Unless you have had a correct colour analysis with accurate colour swatches you will have clothes in your wardrobe in the wrong colours. It always happens. And when the client clears the wrong colours out, they and their wardrobe change, dramatically.
Gained a few kilos lately? Or has your body shape changed? Body changes are a fact of life and a really important thing to factor in when you dress and when choosing styles that are the most suitable for you to wear.
Women over 40 especially may notice a few extra bumps and lumps. Your weight determines which styles suit your body.
Have you noticed when you lose just 5 kilos, how much better an outfit will look?
3. YOUR AGE
“Mutton dressed up as lamb”, is something most mature women don’t want to be. So how to dress appropriately? One major mistake women make is showing too much skin. They forgot to look in the mirror and realise their once taut and toned arms and legs are no longer. That’s why we have things like knee length dresses and not mini’s. Check out my other blogs about being “Age Appropriate”
4. YOUR SIZE
This one is pretty obvious. I am not going to dress a 60 year old woman that is a size 20 in the same styles as a 60 year old woman that’s a size 8.
A smaller frame will look much neater in her dress. Now being a size 8 is just a pipe dream for most of us, so best to know that we can find styles to flatter every shape and size. It’s all about knowing what designs of clothing are your best option.
Style is all about proportion as well. You may be a short stout rectangle or a tall pencil thin rectangle and in the case of a shorter larger frame woman, you could almost be a square shape.
Obviously the style of dress for a taller slimmer woman is not the style of dress for a shorter fuller shape woman with maybe a very full bust. It’s great that dressing your shape can give the illusion of a more balanced frame, and there are style for every shape and size.
As mentioned with height, style is about providing a balanced well-proportioned look. Think about width of shoulders, bust size, hip size, leg length, neck length etc all the body measurements that make up your proportions play a role in your style summary.
I may have 2 women of the same age, size, height, weight and colours but I will dress them in completely different outfits. One woman may be quiet and sophisticated in nature, the other woman playful and outlandish. I will let the clothing match the character.
I love budget shopping. I really get a kick out of looking fabulous for a few dollars. I’m that one when I get a compliment to say. “Oh and these earrings only cost me $3.
It’s amazing, how knowing your colours can help you put the whole look together and can be a really fun adventure of finding those cute and edgy little bargains that make “your signature style” so unique.
Going shopping? No. Hang on a minute. Before you go anywhere, take a look at what’s in your wardrobe first.
You can revamp an existing wardrobe if you’ve been diligent to cull the wrong colours first. Last seasons outfits become “new” again if you see them with fresh eyes when the calendar ticks over. If your wardrobe has ONLY the right colours, creating lots of outfits becomes easy.
Grab a belt, put that outfit with boots. Try a different cardi or jacket over the top. Cinch the waist in, let the shirt out, roll the sleeves up, turn the collar down. The main thing is get creative. Try a new hairstyle. Add a different statement piece of jewellery to make the outfit brand new. You’re only limited by your imagination.
This last tip is a big one. You’re so used to seeing yourself a particular way and your impression of yourself is very strong. Some people love change and some people will oppose it with every fiber in their body. Which type are you? Be aware of that whenever you make any real changes in your life.
If you’re a resister, take it easy. Be kind to yourself. Make gradual changes you can live with and love and then tackle the next change. If you don’t change you’ll stay the same and who wants that?
If you have any questions contact Your Colours and Style always happy to help. Happy Shopping!!!

Looking forward to the end of lockdown and classes to resume in November.
Hope you are all well.
]]>Lock down has made many of us very industrious. It’s given us time at home. Space to breathe and time to think about making some good changes. Those good changes can certainly be put to good use in the area of our wardrobe and what we’re wearing.
Lots of women are also finding themselves in a place where their budget is not as healthy as it once was. And also finding themselves home more often than not and needing less outfits than before.
We may be desirous not to waste so much money on throw away fashion, or save on the environment. How many thousands of dollars have you spent on fashion over the years?
It’s interesting how lock down has us thinking of what really matters. Having a wardrobe jammed packed with clothes we never wear is one of those things that just don’t matter.
Anyone up for doing things smarter? And saving some money as well on your wardrobe?
And having a good clean up? I have just cleaned every room in my house so my wardrobe is next. There will be things to give away and things to post on e-bay, so it will be recycle style and not land fill. There’s a desire to buy much less than before.
This weeks’ blog is all about Culling, Saving, Organizing and thinking more about the outfits we already have and what we will be wearing in the future.
Use your seasonal colour swatch to cull your wardrobe
Wearing your colours is the best way to look your best all the time. Especially as you mature. Lots of women reading this blog have had their colours done. Some of those women may have the wrong diagnosis, some may know a little about their colours and some know their colours well.
The women who know their colours well and how to use their colour swatch efficiently will get the best results with their image and be able to have a functional stylish wardrobe happening all the time.
If you need more information on how to get the most out of your colours, I am always here to help you with an accurate analysis and then how to find the thousands of colours from your colour palette.
As a colour consultant, the first thing I do when I cull a clients’ wardrobe is remove all the WRONG colours.
It’s a little difficult to remove the wrong colours when you don’t know your right colours.
Over the years I have met countless women who have had a misdiagnoses with their colours or have a swatch full of the wrong colours.
Here is a colour swatch that is very misleading it contains colours from Winter, Summer, Autumn and Spring
When you have the right colours ,you are then able to go ahead with a successful cull.
There are some rules I have on how to remove the wrong colours so I can help you with that.
You can then keep the right colours in your wardrobe, begin your seasonal capsule wardrobe from there and then you will be very surprised just how many outfits you can make with a tiny amount of clothes.
How freeing will it be to be able to go into your closet and see all the garments on offer?
All your garments with go together. It will be easy to create numerous outfits and you will look fabulous in every one of them.
If Culling your wardrobe successfully with an accurate colour analysis sounds good to you or you would like to learn more about your Colours in general please contact Your Colours and style.

We all can agree we could do with a little LIFT at the moment.
So get ready for your Spring make over/transformation to lift your spirits and make yourself and your wardrobe a little project to look and feel fabulous.
Women are complaining about their hair. It's looking like a disaster, and a girl cannot feel herself whilst her hair is a total wreck.
Here are my quick tips to see you through til help arrives.
I am no hairdresser, but I do colour my own hair from time to time. Desperate times call for desperate measures and if you need to colour your own hair, there are many supermarket products that work a treat.
Just doing your skunk part can make all the difference. You will feel semi human again!! So what colour should you use to be on the safe side?
My tips on colour. If you are very fair always look for a cool blonde or very light brown colour.
If you are mid brown go for a light brown colour
If you are black go for a mid brown colour.
This will get you through until you can get to the hairdressers again.
I'm sure your hairdresser will love to see you once lockdown is over, so let's remember to support them when we can.
There's no excuse for us really not to do those things like paint our nails, defuzz and exfoliate our legs.
I'm about to give myself a good spring clean up and especially hydrate and moisturize and exfoliate my super dry legs. Mature skin needs all the help it can get, and dryness is a real issue.
If your legs look like this after being under those trackies for so long, do this 3 step process
1. Loofah or dry brush
2. Exfoliate with a good salt scrub
3. Super hydrate with our Collagen Foot Masque (can be used all over the Body and Hands as well) You can use on hands and feet and wear socks and gloves to bed and wake with silky smooth skin.
Order online.
What better way to have a lift than to wear some make up. I know we're not going anywhere, but we are really.
We're going to the supermarket, for a walk, to the doctors. We are actually going somewhere. Meeting up on Zoom. So a little make up will help us and others who see us from time to time.
Ask about my rescue make up kits for a face you'll want to show off.
Comes in various packs. At Special prices in packs suitable For light, medium and dark skin. See the images above in order of colour
I am thinking of recording a couple of utube videos to send you as well if you're interested, with a few make up tips for a youthful make up appearance.
Now you're ready, inspired, motivated to put it all together with some lovely outfits, either from your existing wardrobe or you might want to treat yourself to a few pretty new pieces.
Remember colour is the key to looking youthful and glam so don't be tempted to buy/wear something that's not in the right colour for you.
I am always here to help you get those colours right.
This seasons Spring edit is all about light, linen and silk.
Here are a few lovely ideas. If you need any more tips about what suits you, what you can wear, what colours you should choose, give me a call, always happy to help.
Looking forward to looking lovely, light and beautiful for Spring.

Whether you're shopping your wardrobe or purchasing clothes online, starting with the right basics will be a great way to get a Spring wardrobe together.
One you will just love.
So what are my top 10 must have's for you as we move into the warmer months?
Before we speak of the must haves, let's talk about the must nots.
I always say "fashion is often about not what to wear, as much as what to wear",
Many stylists will claim every wardrobe starts with the LBD (little black dress), a pair of black jeans, black pants and a white top, just to name a few.
But sadly this is not a good place to start if you're looking for ageless style. MATURE women have special needs when it comes to style.
This approach has caused mature women a lot of grief and confusion when it comes to looking great and having a really workable wardrobe.
One of the main reasons why you could be struggling with your wardrobe is you are starting with black and white as your basics.
Black and white are not everyone's basics.
Your seasonal colours are your basics and getting started with your basic neutrals is the way to go.
Armed with your seasonal colour swatch and an idea of all the neutrals in your seasonal swatch is the starting point to your wardrobe.
So here are some top tips to basics I love to use for my clients for an amazing transformation.
My absolute must have number 1 is my light off white jeans. I wear them everywhere and every way. Casual, dressy and everything in between.
Must have no 2 is the washed denim jean. Always, always a staple for every wardrobe.
Not too tight, not too loose, just right . This jean goes with everything is always stylish, effortless and cool.
Staple no 3. The linen/off white/light shirt. Know that a shirt maker suits all ages, all style of women and all shapes as well. Nothing is more elegant than a linen shirt.
My staple no 4. The denim jacket. The humble denim jacket has been around since Levi's were invented and what a wonderfully versatile and stylish piece of equipment it is.
Again this jacket suits all ages, shapes and sizes. Dress it up and dress it down and for those cool nights in Spring what better cover up can you have?
My elegant staple no 5. The beautiful colourful top. Nothing makes me more happy than to don a beautiful colourful shirt/blouse/top when the mercury starts to rise.
Adding a stunningly stylish top brings your sense of individuality and style into play.
If you want to wear sleeveless you can, or if not go for a little sleeve or a sheer long sleeve lightweight fabric top to make your style statement.
Staple no 6. The lightweight coloured or neutral shade pant.
The occasion may call for something more dressy than jeans, so a beautifully tailored cotton or even a very lightweight woollen or linen pant is just the thing.
Remember you have a multitude of neutrals to choose from as well as all the other colours in your palette. Did you know for example, lemon goes with hundreds of other colours?
Staple no 7. You're not going anywhere without that sombrero. Hat's add so much flavour to your outfit and be sure to choose something that makes a statement.
It's another piece that works towards your total look and there are so many creatively interesting hats to choose from.
Staple no 8 You're shoe statement. I am aware that not all mature women feel comfortable in heels but if you are please let them scream style.
Think of all the women you know that are known by the shoes they wear.
And if you're not that lady that loves shoes or thinks that shoes are only made for walking then try and be as stylish as possible in the right colours at least.
You can always find a funky flat sandal for spring or a fashionable comfortable flat.
Staple no 8. You're sunnies. What an excuse to add another stylish layer to your look.
Sunnies not only look great, they cover the eyes giving a more youthful appearance and also protect our eyes in the bargain so use this benefit all you can.
Glasses aren't just for seeing. They are to be seen.
Please please be sure they are in your colours. It makes all the difference to your look and also to your whole outfit. Please, please avoid black. They obliterate your face.
Staple no 9 A lovely lightweight jacket. Such a versatile piece. Have it long, short, mid length, lightweight, structured, loose, fitted, sheer, plain coloured, printed, striped. So many options according to the outfit and the occasion.
Your staple no 10. Whether it's Vuitton, Boho or Faux a stylish bag completes your Spring look.
Just a few things to consider. Choose the right colour. Choose the right shape. Choose the right style for your outfit and choose the right size for your body and also for the balance of your outfit.
If you need more help putting the perfect Spring Capsule Wardrobe together according to you Seasonal Colours please contact me @Your Colours and Style.

The suns' shining, the bees are buzzing. Spring is just around the corner and now is the time to cull, clean and motivate for the warmer months. Time to throw off the winter garb and get into your lovely colourful outfits." I hope you never got out of your colourful outfits."
1. Remove all the wrong colours. This step is critical to looking your best. Have you had your colours done? Do you know how to choose your colours well?
Always start with your colour analysis.
Now I can help you with my online colour analysis video, and you can do your colours without leaving the room
https://www.yourcoloursandstyle.com.au/products/online-colour-analysis
2. Remove all the old clothes. Isn't it amazing just how long we hang on to clothes we think we will wear again "one day" ?
Seriously!!! There are only so many days in a year. So many outings (or not) and just so many clothes we can get on our back at one time. You know the saying. Most of us wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. Now we are probably wearing 5% of our clothes, 100% of the time.
3. Remove all the clothes that no longer fit. How long have you been on that diet? And how long have you been trying to get into those jeans you wore when you were 25? Now I don't want to say forget it, cause I am always the eternal optimist and I always believe in being fit and healthy and not to just allow those extra kilos to take over, but we have to be realistic.
Our bodies change, our bodies change (a lot) as we mature so find some garments that fit well and are flattering for your age.
4. Remove all the inappropriate outfits. Time to get rid of your bickie jacket, your silver bikini, your spangled evening dress and your Jean Shrimpton minis. Those days are over. While you're at it get rid of all the clothes that you never wore because you know they "just didn't suit you" Ask about my list for appropriate style
5. My 5th and final tip to having a successful cull is remove all the bulk.
Seriously how many pairs of the one colour pant can you wear? Or for that matter how many pairs of pants can you wear in general? So if you find you have 1,199 pair of jeans please donate some to those in need.
So now you have a nice clean wardrobe.
What's left? Hopefully some pants, jackets, jeans, t-shirts, tops, shirts and cute spring shoes IN YOUR COLOURS ONLY to create some lovely looks for Spring.

Shopping has never been so much fun, once you learn about your colours.
Seriously I love taking my clients shopping, because success lies in wearing the right colours.
And if you can't shop in person, what's wrong with shopping online with me?
If you're struggling with pulling a wardrobe together, the first place to start is with a professional colour analysis
I am pleased to say I have devised an online colour analysis, to start my clients off, that can't see me in person to get their colours right.
Then you can go online and shop to your hearts content once you are colour aware.
The benefits of knowing your colours, is your choices have just exploded.
People think wearing your colours, limit your options, but it is quite the opposite.
Not only does it broaden your options, it makes shopping so much fun as well as successful. You will look amazing in everything you buy.
Retail being what it is gives us many places to go. Shop in store, shop online, shop overseas labels online, shop brands, shop sales, shop vintage, shop, shop, shop.
So how are your shopping habits?
Do you have a plan?
Have you thought about your purchases or are you random, wasting time and money?
Let's get a shopping plan.
If you are one of my mature clients, you probably have trodden the road of wasted thousands of dollars over your lifetime on too much fashion.
If you're tired of spending wasteful dollars, come with me on your "plan your wardrobe" trip.
Hang on a minute. Before you step out the door, or shop online, get sensible and check out your existing wardobe first.
It's ridiculous buying another pair of pants, when you already have 10 perfectly good pair in your colours in your closet. Or another pair of jeans when you already have 5 suitable pair.
Sort out what you have, make an inventory, consider what is NEEDED in your wardrobe and make a targeted effort toward that garment. This is how you can make your wardrobe more functional, fun and interesting. Nothing worse than a wardrobe full of snap buys you never wear.
So there you have it.
Tip 1. Get your colours done first. Either in person with my colour and style analysis or my online course.
Tip 2. Show your wardrobe first. What is good, what needs to go so you will know what to start with
Tip 3. Make a budget for the quarter, so you do not spend $$$$ you do not have.
Tip 4. Make a list of what you really want or need.
Tip 5. Look at the tried and true labels that fit and are not complete rubbish. The ones you have tried before and are happy with the quality, even though they are budget.
Tip 6. Shop with discernment. Don't just buy on a whim. Look carefully and consider "is this really what I want or need"
Hope you enjoyed this blog.

A winter coat is a great staple so we all need a coat/jacket or two for the cooler months.
The great thing about having a stylish cosy winter jacket is you can almost have a trans seasonal wardrobe. Wear your lovely silk shirts and stylish jeans and keep warm enough with your coat.
A good jacket is usually a substantial investment so be sure to make a wise purchase.
I know a lot of women just settle for a black coat thinking it goes with everything. But this is not the case.
Once you’ve had your colours done, you will be aware of the many colour choices you can make.
It’s so much more fun choosing a colour than just going all black. My suggestion is, with something like a coat you may want to stick with the neutrals in your seasonal colour swatch to make the colour more versatile, to go with many more outfits.
Now I am not saying your yellow jacket won’t go with many things. It will. As long as it’s a yellow in your colour palette. But a beige in your colours will probably cater to more outfits
Your height will determine what length of jacket you can wear. Generally, the taller you are the longer the jacket you can wear. So if you are a tall slim build, you can almost wear a long jacket to your ankles.
If you are shorter best to choose a long jacket to just above the knee.
If you’re choosing a coat rather than a full length jacket, the taller you are the longer you can wear a short jacket as well.
Women with slimmer waists or the petite size women, can have a short jacket, like a Chanel cut that sits on the waist.
Broad lapels accentuate width. If you are broad chested, busty or have a fuller figure, opt for a slimline lapel.
Keep the look sleek and simple. If you are a slimmer person with narrow hips you can wear wider lapels or if you are very tall you can usually carry a wider lapel. If you have narrow shoulders you can balance the top part of your body with a wider lapel as well.
Double breasted buttons accentuate width so best to wear the jacket open if that is the case. If you are fuller in the waist avoid a button on the waist and go for a single breasted coat.
Pockets draw attention to the area they are placed so consider if and where you would like to have pockets.
One more thing you may wish to consider is the fabric and the cut of the garment. You get what you pay for when it comes to something like a coat and jacket and this is probably where you need to spend a little more to get a great cut and fabulous fabric.
You can often see a lovely coat in the right colour and style, but inferior fabric will sometimes pill and lose it’s shape pretty quickly. Go for something special and it will be keeping you warm and stylish for many seasons to come.

This is the last step of the top to toe transformation. If you follow the 7 steps on my blogs, I promise you will see a major difference for the better with your Image. I have seen so many women over the years gain so much more confidence and style and really get to love the way they look.
Dressing YOUR Personality
I’m a great believer of being true to yourself. There is absolutely no point in dressing like someone else. You know the old saying. “be yourself everyone else is taken”
My very strong advice though, is always be yourself within your own colours.
If you choose outfits in the wrong colours you will not look like your “true self”
If you completely change the way you look but if it’s not congruent with your personality and who you are, you’ll never feel comfortable.
If you may make some major changes with your make over, it’s important to stay within your personality type.
Your Personality type
What’s your personality type? And how to dress accordingly.
We all have a dominant personality type so dressing to that really makes sense. There are a few obvious personalities to note.
The crazy sanguine, who is always the life of the party. The very quiet introverts, or the super conservatives and then there’s the all about business types.
Imagine a total introvert wearing large hats, big bold beautiful beads, outrageous colours and crazy make up.
You know the ones. It just wouldn’t go, would it?
Or a super extrovert looking like a school marm, dressed in uniform khaki’s, looking drab, dull and uninteresting. Oh I am not saying there’s anything wrong with being super introverted or that a super conservative needs to look dead, dull and boring. What I am saying is that every personality type can look amazing in styles that complement their personality.
7 Style personality types to consider.
There are many style personalities, I believe, but to make it simple and a round number let’s look at 7 different style types and see if you can see yourself in one, two or many.
Certainly there’s no reason for you to stick to one type. You can feel comfortable and look fabulous in a number of different style genres,
Elegant
The elegant dresser is effortlessly classy and beautiful. Elegant can cover a lot of styles and of course it is a little more dressy than a casual outfit. Elegant can be worn day or night and it’s wonderful to be described as someone that always looks elegant.
Aim for great fitting, lovely fabrics and a beautiful hang to the garment. Do you have to spend a million dollars? Not always. You can dress elegantly without spending big dollars, so be sure the garment is of reasonable quality. I must stress that it is always important to dress your personality strictly in the colours that are in your colour palette.
Your style always suffer if it is not in the right colours.
Classic
Classic is timeless style. Something that looks good in the 50’s or in modern times. We’ve all seen those vintage looks that we admire and wish we could see them in the shops today. Gorgeous, great lines and forever fashionable.
Sporty
Our body shape often dictates the sort of styles that suit us best. So obviously the sporty girl with a more athletic look is going to look great in a sporty type style. Comfortable, easy go anywhere style.
Dramatic
Dramatic comes with a punch. You will never overlook the dramatic dresser. Be careful in your attempts to look dramatic you may go for the wrong colours so be sure to work within your colour palette. Looking dramatic in the wrong colours can make you look garish and sometimes silly. Dramatic style lends itself to unusual cuts, bold prints, geometric prints, glamorous shoes, unusual accessories like interesting bags and shoes. Be bold with your colour mixes within your seasonal colours.
Boho
This feminine and flirty style is always current, always beautiful and can suit women of all ages. It’s just not for the young girls, so adjust the styles accordingly. Boho lends itself to pretty prints and laces and frills, gorgeous hats and lovely sandals. It is always a lovely summer choice.
Feminine
You can’t mistaken the feminine style. Soft, floaty, womanly. The feminine style is not for everyone. Frills and lace may not suit you, your personality or even your body shape. This style really enhances the petite woman.
Chic
Chic is the cutting edge look. Usually worn by the confident sophisticate. Really goes well with expensive makes and cuts. Emulate this style in your own way but always aim to be chic, I always say. And don’t let age get in the way.
Well here are just a few style ideas for you to ponder. I think with fashion always aim to be more creative, more chic and more beautiful. Every woman has her own unique beauty and fashion is all about finding that and playing beautifully with it.
Have fun and remember I am always here to help at Your Colours and style Sydney.

How’s your make up stash? Have you a box full or multiple drawers of make up? Have you been collecting since the 80’s or are you someone that has a very small amount of make up?
Make up is like clothes. You can only wear so much. If you have been hoarding the stuff for years, there will be drawers full of unhygienic matter, so maybe it’s time to cull.
Being organized and only carrying the right amount of anything is just a good idea, one that becomes more appealing to me as I grow older. So let’s get busy and cull our make up and get sorted in the make up department.
Ideally our make up should be a neat little package of the current cosmetics that are totally suited to us. Whenever I see my clients for a make up session or a personal stylist session, I always ask them to bring all their make up along. That way we can determine together what is and what isn't helpful for them to wear.
The very first thing that must go is make up in the wrong colours. So many women say they have trouble getting the right foundation for example. So we find a foundation that’s perfect for them. It really is no use wearing the wrong make up just because you spent money on it.
Eyeshadows, lipsticks and blushes in the wrong colours have to go as well.
Black mascara and the wrong colour kohl pencils are not good to keep.
Any make up that’s over 2 years old, most definitely should be tossed out.
It will probably be going off.
They say we should even replace our mascara every 6 months. Putting the wand in and out and applying to our lashes can introduce little germs.
Old brushes are best to be replaced and brushes, make up bags and containers need a regular clean.
Make up of course is individual. Some women love make up and are very good at applying it and other women are completely lost when it comes to wearing make up.
As an Image consultant, my view is mature women need make up to cover aging signs and define those fading features, like brows and lips. We can have a more youthful look just by wearing our make up well.
Before and after-Make up in the right colours
Here is a little list of the make up basics that after the original outlay will not break the bank, because you’ll use every drop of each product.
2. Concealer A must product for older clients as it hides the dark and aged skin tone. Also doubles as a lovely eye base as well. I use the #104 on all my clients.
3. Eyeshadows.Choose 1-5 in light, medium and darker shades in your colour palette of course. Mix and match and create your own eyeshadow look.
4. Kohl pencils 1 or 2 in your colours are ample. Use for tight lines, highlighting lids etc
5. Brown mascara. Is a must for mature eyes. So much softer and more appealing.
6. Lip pencils. Mature lips need to be defined and no better way than a lip pencil. A couple in darker shades and lighter shades to highlight your lipstick colours. You can also use lip pencils to create lots of lip colour ideas.
7. Lipsticks. My favourite so have as many as you like in your colours. Great for lip condition and YCS lipsticks are chock full of essential oils.
8. Powder-Powder is optional so go for a translucent powder or a neutral wet and dry powder to seal your foundation, remove shine or just act as a foundation on it’s own.
9. Blush or rose gold bronzer in your colours to lift cheeks, define and shine. It looks beautiful.
10 Brow kit. Our brows need colour and definition. They thin and go grey, so a brow kit does wonders.
These are go anywhere, suit every make up solution.
If you would like a free make up session contact your colours and style. Or see our great hands on make up classes.
]]>Are you happy with your makeup?
Do you think a little tweek here and there would help?
Have you been wearing the same make up for decades and feel a little tired and jaded?
So many women are confused, depressed and lacking confidence when it comes to applying make up.
But are there a few beauty hacks that can change all that?
Well yes there are and like every new skill just learning the main things can be a real game changer and something that can help your make up confidence soar.
Of course there are lots of little tips and tricks to make up, but if I was to name just a couple of things that would make your make up better the number one tip I would give is wear the right colours for your underskin tone.
Now you may have heard about wearing your colours or "getting your colours done" but how does that affect your make up?
Wearing the right colour make up is definetely a real key to looking your best.
Make up needs to "blend" into your natural colour skin tone, not sit on the top.
That's why a professional colour analysis really helps.
I would say that even if you are not great at application just wearing your colours make up makes the world of difference.
Conversely you may be a brilliant make up artist, but the wrong colours can spoil the whole look.
The wrong make up colours can make your skin look pallid
The wrong make up colours can be too bright or garrish
The wrong make up colours can make you look dull and aged
The wrong make up colours can make you look less attractive.
The wrong make up colours can change the shape of your features
The wrong make up colours can diminish your eyes
The wrong make up colours can make your lips look strange
The wrong make up colours can make you look strange
The wrong make up colours can make you look a fright
The wrong make up colours can make you look a different colour
These are just a few reasons why you don't want to wear the wrong make up colours and finding the right colours for your underskin tone is a good goal to have.

Our final step to your top to toe transformation is a 3 part step 7-Dress your age, dress your shape and dress your personality.
Part 2 of step 7 is -dress your shape.
Remember this all comes after you have determined your colours.
Colours is the basis to your image success.
Once you've understood your colours, all the rest will fall into place.
Dressing your shape can be a complex equation of figures, dimensions and lengths, but there is a simple way for you to see what shapes, styles and designs best suit you.
I try to make this step as simple as possible for my clients, and learning to use our eye, is a great way to discover design.
One good way is to imagine yourself as a rectangle.
Some of course will be more rectangle than others depending on height and thinness.
A rectangular shape that's 6 feet tall and a size 8 will look different to a rectangle that's 5 feet tall and a size 16.
Look at yourself in the mirror and think about balance. How can you make that rectangle more balanced, considering shoulder and hip width?
You can make your rectangle more elongated by adding heels for example and slimming down the pant width?
Or maybe having mono colours and no patterns, if you are aiming to look taller, will give you a better shape.
There are lots of little tricks to get that balance right.
To make life simple, I like to put women into only one of 2 categories for shape.
Of course there are many more, but as a personal stylist, I find this is simple way of dressing and it works every time.
You are either a straight shape or a curvy shape.
The straight shape is determined by a thicker waist. You may have a small or large bust. You may have a flat tummy or a fuller tummy especially as you mature. And as you mature, you may even develop a muffin top, which is very common. In general you have smaller hips as well.
The curvy shape will always have a slimmer waist. Usually bigger hips and bigger bust size goes with the curvy look aka Kim Kardashian.
So you can imagine yourself as a rectangle with a tie around the middle to pull it in like a bow.
The curvier figure will look fabulous in fitted waisted clothes.
You can probably go a little tighter and more fitted. You're waist is an asset and belts and tuck ins are the go.
Often the curvy shape will have small shoulders with a large bust, scooped and cut out necks, minimizes and show off that feature.
Avoid detail around the hips, like pockets and stripes and frilled tops.
Fitted knee length skirts will slim down the hip area, but don't go too tight around the hips.
Bring all the focus towards the slimmer waist or the lower cut tops. Remember less fabric and fullness "tidies" the whole look.
Jackets sit neatly just below the waist. The Chanel cut works wonders.
Each body is individual so a little trial and error always helps.
Of course the straight shape comes in all sizes. Dressing for success depends on your height and your size. A very tall slim person can wear lots of length and flow for example
A shorter straight figure should avoid garments that are too long and flowey as they will swamp you.
A general rule of thumb for most straight figures is to stick to classic shapes.
Avoid tuck ins or belts, unless you are very slim.
Fitted but not tight tops sitting around the belly button or a little below are usually a good length. Don't wear things that are too tight, but not too loose and sloppy either.Tailored and nicely fitted garments look great.
If you are a straight body shape with broad shoulders, adopt ways to minimize shoulder width, like creating V necks and have smaller jacket lapels and un padded shoulders.
These little tips are only a guide. Like I said every body is different and you will always benefit from a personal shopping trip with the help of a professional personal shopper.

The final step of your transformation is three pronged.
It’s what creates your individualism.
It’s about dressing your age, your shape and your personality.
It's about finalizing your top to toe signature style
You’re special- ness is shown when you take all these 3 things into consideration.
Every person is an individual and your own look comes into play by following ALL of the 7 steps to transformation.
Our shape and size, colour and ethnicity, age and personality are all a part of who we are.
No two individuals are the same and who wants to be a cookie cutter image of everyone else anyway?
This is one of the reasons why I take an exception to all women wearing black from top to toe.
It’s a little difficult to be creative or look different if we are all wearing black.
Our fashion and style needs to grow and change with us.
Have you noticed you can’t keep doing the things you’ve always done as you grow older?
Try standing next to your 25 year old daughter wearing exactly the same outfit. Something looks a little out of place and that something is you.
Follow the mature rules and manage to look younger and more appealing that way.
I like to use the decades rule. Each decade has it’s own set of challenges and so we need to accommodate the challenges and changes and grow gracefully to have stunning style
Age is no barrier to beauty and mature style that's done well, can always be a mark of elegance.
Here are a few simple style tips to think about as the decades roll on, to avoid looking like “mutton dressed as lamb”
These applications will help you look your stunning best.
Though there are exceptions to every rule, these are some general no no’s for maturing women.
Remember most of us don’t look like the celebrities, so best not to follow their lead. The images we often see of famous people are often photo-shopped and they spend hundreds and thousands of dollars to defy the years. These images are not reality for most women.
I think some women believe if they dress like their daughters they’ll look years younger, but the opposite is mostly true.
With all that in mind here are my 20 top things mature women should avoid to look more youthful and beautiful

]]>Have you ever had your colours done?
Are you aware of the benefits to your look by wearing your colours?
If you're a young woman or a mature woman, wearing the right colours is really a style game changer.
(Young woman before and after wearing her colours)
Certainly if you are a mature woman, wearing the right colours is so important.More so than when you are young.
If you notice yourself, often looking a little dull and drab , it will most likely be because you're not wearing colours that suit you.
(Even celebrities can improve on their colours)
An example of her wearing the right colours. To maintain a youthful look, she should refer to the colour palette on the right.
A professional colour analysis, will help you find ALL the right Colours in your Seasonal Colour Palette.
To show the client the right colours that suit them, the stylist will have a serious of cool, warm, dominant and muted coloured drapes.
The draping kit will have a variety of shades to demonstrate just how much the skin colour is affected by placing swatches against the skin.
It's up to the colour consultant to reveal to the client just how each colour affects the way they look
At first glance the coral swatch may appear suitable but the clarity of the skin, eyes, hair and lips is muddied on the left.
The wrong colours are less noticeable on younger skin, as a younger woman has less things she wants to conceal.
The pink swatch shows how flattering the cooler shades are on this model.
(Note how the Coral colour adds an orangey warm tone?)
Once the cool tones are deemed best on this client, the colour consultant goes on to reveal how the cool tones are a better fit.
The cool shades are made up of 2 palettes, one cool dominant and the other cool muted.
(It's obvious just how much younger, slimmer and more attractive this mature woman appears when she wears the right colours, on the right)
Since the 60's Colours has gone through major changes.
Originally Colour me Beautiful and other Colour Companies and Franchaise had just 4 seasonal palettes. Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
From there many Colour systems emerged, making way for many different interpretations and mass confusion.
The 4 Colours system is and was accurate, but many untrained and unskilled analysts misdiagnosed clients, hence many confusing systems appeared.
The analysis is only as good as the consultant interpreting the colours and their clients colours.
The client needs to be firstly draped with one cool and one warm pink tone.
Then one of each of the groups of seasonal colours.
The analysis will reveal that all the colours from the one palette will suit that client.
From that one palette, the analyst can then show the client the thousands of colour choices that fit within that colour palette
There are an infinite number of colours
When you think of it, every colour on the planet can fit into one of 4 categories.
They are either Cool Dominant, Cool Muted, Warm Brights or Warm Deep Colours.
So when the colour consultant does your analysis, they need to find the right palette that "blends" with your underskin tone.
They also need to have a good knowledge about how to slot the 2.5 million plus colours into the right category.
There are so many different seasonal colour swatches on the market, and many have combinations of all the colour categories in the one seasonal palette.
Women are confused and go back to wearing any old colour.
I have seen so many women like this, which is a real shame and they never experience the beauty of colour

How much attention do you pay to the colours you wear?
You may have noticed some colours seem to look great and some just don't.
We've all had that experience when purchasing a certain style of garment that it may look better in a different colour on us.
Many women and personal stylists, shop for style rather than colour, believing it's all about the style. Some may completely ignore the colour component of their wardrobe, but is that setting them up to fail?
If your wardrobe is void of colour, it may be time to consider the role colour plays in your closet, particularly if you're over 40.
As we age obviously things change. A lot of women I see are 40 plus. It's a time when it becomes clearer that some of the choices we make with our image are not working well for us.
Women may give up at this stage and resign themselves to thinking it's an age thing and they'll never look good again.
But all women can look good at all ages. It's just a matter of making the right colour choices first and then the style and the personal and signature style follow.
You'll be amazed at the transformation when you incorporate the right colours in your hair, makeup, clothing and accessories.
If you want the wow factor, colour is the way to go.
Clients have testified, colour has changed their life. Younger, slimmer, more attractive and beautiful you'll be when you wear your colours.
What a bonus it is, as you age to grow more and more beautiful in your colours.
Colour can be confusing, simply because there are an infinite number of shades.
They say up to 16 million, but there has to be more than that because the combinations of the mixtures are endless.
So how to choose your colours? You need to have a professional colour analysis.
It's the only way to gain all the help you need around colour. As a colour consultant, I studied colours for a decade to understand all there is to know about the right colours for all women.

Colours are the key to your Image success. You can roam around the shops aimlessly for hours if you have no idea of the colours that suit you. Or you can grab lots of interesting and lovely items and bargains as well.
How would you feel if after 3 hours of shopping you could find 30 items you love?
It’s all about colour.
There’s a misunderstanding that shopping for your colours only limits your shopping choices.
Actually the opposite is true.
Whilst those that don’t know their colours , search for anything in any colour, a colour specialist can guide you to all your colour choices.
That way you can eliminate all the bad choices and only go for the right choices. This makes shopping, targeted, fun and exhilarating.
You will be more qualified once you know your colours.
Exploring the world of colour is a wonderful experience. With over 16million colours available you can see how colours and colour theory can be a little confusing.
It’s important to have an accurate analysis as there are countless colour systems on the market.
Your colours and style comes with 15 years colour experience and many thousands of testimonials to the advantages of knowing your colours.
We’ve all heard the expression “mutton dressed up as lamb”
Wearing the wrong colours gives this result. Younger women don’t look as bad in the wrong colours as more mature women do.
The wrong colours are very aging for a number of reasons.
Some colours are too bright or too dull or just too powerful. In this case a less than attractive look is achieved. The wrong colours make us look bigger and frumpier also.
My personal advice as a colour consultant is to make having a colour analysis your first style choice.
So many women tell this changes everything and they wished they’d done it a long time ago.
It’s not easy to see for yourself what does and doesn’t suit you.
It’s a 15 minute experience that changes everything.
You can also do this online in the comfort of your own home and gain professional help with your style after that.
If you haven’t had this experience of having your colours done as yet, here are a few little tips to help yourself.
Take a few pictures of yourself wearing colour.
Ask yourself the following questions
Do I look bigger in that colour?
Does that colour reflect on my face?
What colour is reflecting on my face?
Do I appear to have more pigmentation in this colour?
Do my eyes look brighter in this colour?
Does my hair shine?
Are my teeth white or yellow?
Does this colour make me look red?
Does this colour cast shadow and give me more lines?
Do I look yellow in that colour?
Is the colour too bright?
Is the colour too strong?
Is the colour dull on me?
These are the things a professional colour stylist will look at to guide you to your perfect colour choices
